YOU ARE HERE Clubs Mathematics

INTRODUCTION

Mathematics club consists of a group of organized students who are interested in dealing with mathematical facts, theories and different mathematical applications.

Organization of the club

In Loyola High School, mathematics club started back in 2004 where by it had members from both O-level and A-level students as one group, but in 2006 the club had to branch into two groups that are the seniors and the junior.

The junior branch consists of the O-level students and the senior branch consists of the A-level students. The reason for branching is mainly to increase student’s participation!

Leadership

The junior mathematics club branch is under the supervision of Elizabeth Mwanisawa who is the chairperson. While in the senior we have

  • Chairperson-Emmanuel Mvungi
  • Assistant chairperson-Bertha Pascal
  • Club coordinator-Mustapha Valibhai
  • Secretary-Tumganile Magingo
  • Assistant secretary-Doreen L. Mlawa
  • Treasurer-Scolla Mtallo

Not only that but also

  • Club matron- Madam Epina
  • Club patron- Mr. Nshaija

Activities of the club

Ø math competition

Ø games and puzzles

Ø research

Ø learning new concept

FUTURE PLANS

As a mathematics club we are planning to

Ø develop new formulae

Ø Start a chess club- this is first going to be a part of mathematics club but later on it may come to be an independent club.

Ø Helping students who are poor in mathematics so as they can improve

Ø Developing and sharing new and easier techniques in solving mathematical problems

achievements

So far we have succeeded in developing formulae to a certain extent and in sharing techniques this is through solving different questions when we meet on Fridays during clubs tine.

About starting a chess club, so far we have been leaning how to play chess as one of the activities in the club.

setbacks

So far we have been facing the problem of shortage of fund which leads to having no study tours which could have helped us learn more from outside the school so as to expand further the knowledge we have.

We do not have interschool mathematics club competitions.

CLUBS DAY 2007

During the clubs day on November 2007 we prepared

  • Chess
  • Monopoly
  • Triangle puzzle
  • Card puzzle
  • Applications of mathematics
  • Math questions

We emerged to be the second winner in academic clubs! This was a great achievement. We also thank Madam Veronica as she was a great help to us.

LASTLY

We would like to welcome all the people who want to join the mathematics club. It is a very nice club as you will get to enjoy mathematics as it helps us a lot in our everyday life!
